Religion is Man-made

Recently, I have heard people talk about how they don’t like religion thrown in their faces. I can understand that because I don’t like it either. It is frustrating when people seem to think they can come up with a logical method of getting to heaven. In reality, salvation is not logical according to our ways; therefore, we need to stop trying to reason out what only God can do!

I decided to look up the word “religion” in curiosity of how it is defined. Here’s what I found:

1. a : the state of a religious <a nun in her 20th year of religion> b (1) : the service and worship of God or the supernatural (2) : commitment or devotion to religious faith or observance
2. a personal set or institutionalized system of religious attitudes, beliefs, and practices
3. archaic : scrupulous conformity : conscientiousness
4. a cause, principle, or system of beliefs held to with ardor and faith
*
1. Belief in and reverence for a supernatural power or powers regarded as creator and governor of the universe.
2. A personal or institutionalized system grounded in such belief and worship.
3. The life or condition of a person in a religious order.
4. A set of beliefs, values, and practices based on the teachings of a spiritual leader.
5. A cause, principle, or activity pursued with zeal or conscientious devotion.
*
Many of the other sites I looked at defined it the same or close to the same. If you look at these definitions, it talks a lot about a set of beliefs, conformity and an institutional system. That is not what it is all about.
*
The Bible does not tell us to be religious. In fact, it calls the Pharisees religious in a negative way. I realize on an individual level, some may look at the word religion as service to God. Nevertheless, religion is not Christ-based; Muslims and Jehovah Witnesses practice religion. Buddhists and Hinduism practice religion.  A religious person is trying to create a way to heaven that DOES NOT EXIST! They tend to speak with their mouths but do not carry the truth in their hearts.
*
If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man’s religion is vain. – James 1:26
*
Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying, This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. – Matthew 15:7-9

A walk with God relies upon trust and faith. It encompasses a belief in the Lord Jesus Christ: that He died on the cross as a perfect, sinless lamb; that He rose from the grave on the third day; and that He ascended up to be with God the Father. Salvation comes about through acknowledgment and repentance of the sin in one’s life. We cannot get to heaven on our own merits. If we could, heaven would be rather deserted and empty!!!
*
Nowhere in the New Testament does it say that we have to follow a ton of laws and be pretty much perfect to get into heaven. In the Old Testament, the law was to prove we COULDN’T live right on our own. The purpose of the law was to show us our inadequacy and inability to be godly. The purpose of the law was to testify our need for a Saviour!
*
And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace. For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. – John 1:16-17
*
For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect. For then would they not have ceased to be offered? because that the worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins. – Hebrews 10:1-2
*
Once we are saved, the Lord changes us. Good works are important to display a good testimony of Jesus Christ, but that comes AFTER God’s grace is laid upon our lives.
*
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them. – Ephesians 2:8-10

We live in a society that looks for the easiest route out. Everything is disposable; everything includes shortcuts. What I don’t get is why the gospel is so hard for many. What I don’t understand is why people have taken a simple truth and made it difficult and confusing. In such a society as ours, I would think that people would embrace the easy truth of Jesus Christ. Instead, many choose to ignore, reject, and ridicule it. The only thing I can figure is that it is so easy it scares people. Maybe because the truth of change and humbleness is too much. Maybe because we need to let go of ourselves in order to walk closely with our Creator. Suddenly, what is easy becomes almost impossible!

All I know is the day I was saved was the greatest day of my life!!!!!!!!!!!

Think about it. Have you received Jesus or have you received religion? Do you take the Bible as literal truth or do you take it as “interpret as you want to?” Do you trust that the Lord can save you?

Here is the truth. May it bless your lives!

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. – John 3:16

*
For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: All these evil things come from within, and defile the man. – Mark 7:21-23
*
As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one . . . For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; – Romans 3:10 and 3:23
