Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. – Genesis 2:24
Today was a special day. One of my closest friends married the man God selected to be her life-long mate. They are such a sweet couple, and it not only blessed me to be at the wedding but also in the wedding. Of course, it forced me to face my fear of having the eyes of many on me as I was the first bridesmaid to enter. I shook the entire time (though I settled some after the ceremony was underway). However, it still blessed me to be a part of this special day!
Marriage is such a special thing. I haven’t had the opportunity to experience it yet, but I haven’t quite given up the hope that eventually God will open that door for me. It just isn’t time yet. I hate to admit it, but there was a time I didn’t think much about marriage at all. I even said I would never walk down that pathway – ever!
There was a period in my life when all I seemed to see was divorce. Friends getting divorced, my parents were divorced, my sister was divorced . . . I developed a very negative spirit. I figured why bother if it wouldn’t last? Of course, I also was not walking with the Lord like I should. I backslid quite a ways.
Now, I have seen so many wonderful marriages. Blessed, godly marriages! My pastor and his wife are a wonderful example of what a marriage should be. I think they have been married 35 years? The assistant pastor and his wife have a wonderful marriage as well! I don’t like to list names too much without permission, otherwise I would give you many specific examples. Let’s just say there are many in our church that make my heart hope that eventually I may be blessed in the same way. I watch couples that have been married five, ten, twenty, thirty . . . years and still have a genuine spark and flame. It blesses my heart!
God is so good! I pray that my newly wedded friends will be showered with blessings in their new journey of life!
